Philadelphia Union Fall 2-1 to Chicago Fire as Winless Start Continues
CHESTER, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union’s difficult start to the 2026 MLS season continued Saturday night, as they dropped a 2-1 decision to Chicago Fire FC at Subaru Park.
Chicago struck first in first-half stoppage time when forward Hugo Cuypers continued his strong scoring form, heading home a cross to give the visitors a late 1-0 advantage. Philadelphia responded just minutes later, as midfielder Milan Iloski netted his first MLS goal of the season with a looping header to even the match at 1-1 before halftime.
The second half proved decisive, with Jonathan Bamba finishing a well-worked attack in the 58th minute to restore Chicago’s lead. The Union were unable to find an equalizer despite several early chances, as Chicago’s defense held firm down the stretch.
Philadelphia’s attack showed flashes, particularly in the opening half, but struggled to generate consistent opportunities after the break. Goalkeeper Andre Blake kept the Union within reach, while Chicago keeper Chris Brady made key saves to preserve the result.
The loss drops the Union to 0-5-0 on the season, marking one of the worst starts in club history and extending their early-season struggles following a midweek exit from international competition.
