WDAS Celebrates Community Leaders at 2025 Women of Excellence Luncheon
Philadelphia, PA — April 12, 2025
The spirit of empowerment and recognition filled the ballroom of the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown as 105.3 WDAS hosted its 9th Annual Women of Excellence Luncheon, honoring a dynamic group of women making a lasting impact across the Delaware Valley.
The annual event, a staple in the region since its launch in 2015, celebrates women in leadership, public service, media, healthcare, and community advocacy. This year’s ceremony continued that tradition, spotlighting both nationally recognized figures and local changemakers.
Headlining the event were two powerhouse honorees: Emmy Award-winning television personality Sherri Shepherd, who received the Legend Award for Film & TV Achievement, and Grammy-winning singer Lalah Hathaway, honored with the Legend Award for Musical Achievement.
In addition to the headline awards, WDAS recognized several distinguished women for their contributions to the community:
Dr. Beverly Coleman, a leader in maternal-fetal medicine
Lisa Blunt Rochester, a trailblazer in politics
Aziza Shuler, a respected media voice
Dr. Dorothy Johnson Speight, a longtime community advocate
Kendra Van De Water, a leader in youth empowerment
The program also highlighted “Sheroes” — women nominated by listeners whose grassroots work has transformed neighborhoods and uplifted families throughout the region. One nominee received the prestigious Mary J. Blige Award for Perseverance and Courage, continuing a tradition tied to the event’s inaugural honoree.
Hosted by WDAS personalities including Patty Jackson and Loraine Ballard Morrill, the afternoon blended heartfelt speeches, celebration, and live entertainment. Performances by artists such as Sunshine Anderson, Jeff Bradshaw, and Q Parker from 112  added energy to the occasion, reinforcing the event’s uplifting atmosphere.
